Reinstall AOL

I am still using AOL for mail as well as the Mac Mail. I keep having problems which make me think something is corrupted in the AOL software. I have trashed AOL preferences and sometimes that helps.I want to reinstall AOL. Can someone give me very detailed instructions on how to do that without ruining saved messages and Address Book. (My wife uses AOL exclusively).

Hi 0omnilen!

Instructions here How To Manually Uninstall/Reinstall AOL .

However, On AOL Downloads, there are two versions of AOL software currently available in All-In-One Software.
The older AOL® for Mac OS X version 10.3.7, and the more recently released AOL® Desktop for Mac 1.2.1.

You will want to download the same version of software, that you are currently using.

ali b:
AOL seems to be working after the reinstall but problems continue with MAIL. It handles incoming mail fine but refuses to send any outgoing. It says "the sender address xxxxxx was rejected by the server". I tried cancelling the IMAP account and reinserted it but that didn't work.

I suppose I have to trash all the MAIL preferences, etc. Do you or anyone else have similar detailed advice?

Thanks again

My outgoing server was just smtp.aol.com, without my AOL screen name. I changed it to add the screen name and I don't get the sneder address rejected by server anymore - I just get a spinning ball until it times out and the message still isn't sentAll the other settings were as you said except that the outgoing server port is 25. That is what it has always been.

Ali B: You did tell me to change outgoing server to smtp.aol.com:screen name. I tried it and it did not help. What you did not tell me was to use password authentication (which I had never used before). That was the missing agreement. As I said, password authentication automatically added my screen name to smtp.aol.com.

\I am just trying to spell this out so that you can help others.

Thanks
