What are the major differences between the 1G and 2G touches? I'm thinking of buying a used 1G for $100 and didn't know if it was worth it or not to get a new 2G instead? How do you go about getting the serial number transferred to you for warranty purposes?
Steve
how can you tell the difference when you look at them? I just received one as a gift (32GB), and I don't know if it's 2g or 1g. It's still in the box unopened. If it's 1g I want to leave it unopened and try to sell to buy a 2g.
People seem to be giving their opinion, rather than answering your question "is there a difference", so I'll answer it for you 🙂
the 2G model has a speaker, external volume control, Nike+ receiver built in, the 16 GB model cost the same as the 8GB model on 1G (making 8GB on 2G cheaper), and you can use Apple's new in-ear buds for volume control (1G can use them to listen to music, but the volume controls won't work).
Other than that, they're pretty much the same.
I have the first generation, and have no reason to upgrade just yet. I'll wait until a 3G versions comes out and see what it has to offer. Although they added a new memory option, it's still too little in my opinion. So I'm waiting to upgrade until they make an iPod Touch with at least 100 GB of storage.
