Disabling Download Manager...

Is there anyway to either DISABLE (I HATE DOWNLOAD MANAGERS) the download manager OR have the download manager prompt me for a download location each time I download something. I get tired of going on a wild goose chase trying to find where manager downloaded my downloaded .tar.gz files. I'd rather this manager not do the unpacking for me either/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png User uploaded file
I am an old fogey unix/linux user and cannot get used to this type of 'convenience' 🙂
I am able to disable this in firefox/linux and have the manager NOT unpack the files for me

You cannot have Safari prompt you for a location to download each file; you must choose a default location from Preferences > General, or Control-Click on the download link and you can then choose the location you like.

If you looked more closely at the Preferences > General section you would have seen that you can easily disable the "Open "safe" files after downloading option".
