Will an Apple Store install RAM for me?

If I wanted to upgrade my RAM, would the Apple store do it for me?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.

They probably would, especially if you buy it from them.

Why not choose your closest store from this list:

and call them to see?

Apple usually charges a premium for RAM. You may find that you are quite capable of installing RAM yourself. Check out this Apple Knowledge Base article on installing RAM and see if you think you're up to it:

Apple does consider it a customer-installable part.

You can probably find less expensive RAM for the MacBook at ramseeker.com. It doesn't happen often, but once in awhile RAM fails, so be sure that you buy RAM that has a lifetime warranty.

Good luck!

If you buy it there it should be no problem. They do charge a ridiculous premium for what's practically the same as what you could buy aftermarket. It's $400 for a 4 GB kit and $200 for a 2 GB kit from Apple. Compare that to Crucial.com, which currently charges $82 for a 4 GB kit and $40 for a 2 GB kit.

Installing memory is so simple that almost anyone could do it. If you don't feel comfortable doing it youself, you could buy the memory yourself and bring it to a computer repair place that could do this for under $30.
