Thanks for the reply dwb.

The songs were bought by my cousin from iTunes and 'other sources'.
When I dock his ipod to my computer, iTunes won't let me drag and drop any songs from his playlist to my computer. Does this have to do with computer authorization, copyright infringement or what?
I don't want to do anything unethical.

Thanks again.

I plugged my daughter's Nano into my iPod dock. The Nano showed up in my Finder as a disk drive. Only the Photo's database, contacts, calendars, etc showed up.

When iTunes opens it asks you if you want to transfer the songs off of the iPod to your library. Answer "TRANSFER MUSIC" and it moves purchased songs over. To play the songs your computer must be one of the five allowed authorized computers to play the songs. I don't know how DRM-free songs are transferred. However if you say CANCEL to this offer, you can view the songs in the iPod list view, but the song names are grayed out so you can't do anything with them.

Your friend COULD enable "Disk Use" on his/her iPod, and transfer music files that way.
