Cannot answer incoming calls!

On my 2G iphone with 2.1 firmware, sometimes when a call comes in I try to use the "slide to answer" but it doesn't work. The call is then missed. Once the call is missed then I can unlock and call them back.

It doesn't happen all the time but it has now happened 3 times in less than a week. Very frustrating! Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas on what to do now?

My restore did not help. However, I may have learned one way to make it work. When a call came in for me recently that I could not answer I then quickly switched the ringer silent switch from on to off and then magically the phone allowed me to answer the call! I don't know if it will always work or if toggling the switch from off to on works as well.

I'll post again with further results of this technique. It will take a while, however, since it doesn't happen all the time.

I'm also having a problem either answering calls or ending them. Apple swapped out my 1st gen iPhone for a new one a few weeks ago due to this problem. Now, this one has started doing the same thing. I did a restore yesterday and today I was unable to end a couple calls. It doesn't happen on every call, but is disturbing when it does happen.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. This is my 4th iPhone due to various issues. One problem I've never had with another (non A phone is the inability to answer or end a call. I realize the iPhone will probably have some bugs needing to be worked out in various iterations of the iPhone, but, somehow don't feel this is a problem I should have to live with.

Are my expectations too high? Any suggestions?

I have a 16 gig, non 3G iphone and since upgrading to 2.1 have had the same problem. My son has an 8 gig model and he is experiencing the same thing. It is happening quite frequently and I am certain that since it is since the upgrade, it is the software. Quite frustrating and happens about 25 to 35% of the time now. From what I am reading, it is happening on the 3G phone as well. Restoring, according to what I am reading, does not help, although I can try this.

Apple should get on the ball with this as it is bad enough having unreliable cell service due to weak signals... getting a call and not being able to answer it just makes it more unreliable.

Have you tried what I suggested above? (Repeated here for convenience)

When a call came in for me recently that I could not answer I then quickly switched the ringer silent switch from on to off and then magically the phone allowed me to answer the call! I don't know if it will always work or if toggling the switch from off to on works as well.

It has worked for me twice but it doesn't happen enough for me to definitively declare this a "workaround".

I have a 16Gb 3G for three weeks and yesterday I had the same problem. Today 2x.
Yesterday I had the green slider that didn't respond, today I had nothing to answer the phone with! No slider, no button.

Indeed very frustrating!

Next time I will try the work around with the silent button. I'll let you know.

so i was just wondering if apple swapped your phone for free or if you had to pay. i too am having this problem and im sick of it. i just want a new phone that works! My problem doesnt only happen with incoming calls but it happens at random times too. It just doesnt let me "slide to open" and my problem occurs like 75% of the time. I think im just gonna terminate my contract and get a new phone with a new company because this is really ridiculus and no one seems to care.

Thank God I am not the only one with this problem. I have had my 3G iPhone for about a month (first iPhone for me) and I experience this problem every now and then, both with answering and ending a call. Last time about 1 hour ago and within a few minutes too, I couldn't end a call nor I could answer the next and had to stop myself from turning my iPhone into a soccerball.

So the 'good' news for me at least are that this appears to be a common bug and I don't have to send my iPhone back to the sender. The bad news of course is that this appears to be a common bug! I thought that this might be due to the fact that I have quite a few apps installed... not sure if this is still the case... do you guys have lots of stuff installed?

thanks
Michela

Thanks for the feedback re: shaking, I actually realized after browsing the forum that it's meant to happen when you press an icon for a few seconds (doh!) but yeah you're right, sometimes it happens for no reason!

Ok - hopefully Apple will eventually fix the no answer problem (wishful thinking?!) and maybe come up with the very overdue "copy & paste" functions!!

thanks

Yea... i have this problem too after software updated to 2.1, before 1.1.4...none!!!
This afternoon I tried to answer an incoming call but can't, it only slide half way and immediately spring/slide back....
This is my third time after software updated to 2.1, the 1st time was a called from my girlfriend & she thought i purposely hang up on her....!

About the Apps shaking/jiggles, yeah I also had this problem... there's once when I press "Settings",
it hangs for a couple of seconds & then it started to jiggle. Usually you need to hold an app for 2 seconds & only it will starts to jiggle.

A 2.1 bug perhaps???

Cannot answer incoming calls!
