I purchased a new 4th generation (nano-chromatic) iPod Nano. I opted for the 16 GB model. I upgraded to the new iTunes8, and proceeded to download some new tunes, and a movie from the iTunes store. The new unit worked like a champ at first, but soonafter it began to freeze, rendering every feature useless. About all I can do is power-off the Nano, and restart. Problem is, after "every" restart, the unit locks up. Is there a fix for this? Thanks
PowerMac G5,
Mac OS X (10.5.5),
iTunes8, iPod Nano (4th generation)
We haven't experienced that with ours. The only thing I can suggest is to make sure that you got the firmware update. I'm not sure if the 16 GB ships with it already or not. Connect it to your computer and then click the "Check for Update" button on the screen in iTunes that shows your iPod (click your iPod in the side bar if you aren't at that screen.)
I said 4th generation, but I believe it is a 5th generation. It is the latest model released last week. I will look into the firmware update suggesstion. Thanks.
Try resetting the iPod. Do this by holding the menu and center button simultaneously until you see the Apple icon. Let us know if this fixes your problem.
i got the same problem with yours..The display is freeze even after i restart the ipod...just bought it for 2 days ago..what a bad ipod i got?? 😟 can i got any replacement for that?
mines doing the same thing. after every few songs it will freeze up and not let me do anything, then whatever buttons i hit while it was froze it will do.
could it be b/c i have 13.xxgb out of 16 full?
it seems all the problems reported arent just one case, everyone is having them.
Im having the exact same problems! Just opened new apple ipod 4th gen 8GB blue. Worked for around 30 minutes although it seemed slightly un responsive. Now it completely locks up, the only way I can get it to turn on is by resetting it but after this happens I can not use any of the buttons or the scroll wheel. Tried updating firmware, restoring it and resetting ipod. Nothings working. And its not on hold either 😉
What do you want people to tell you? Return the product and get another one. It sounds like you got a faulty iPod. If the 2nd one doesnt work then just a refund.
Hi there, i bought a nano chromatic black 8 gig just today, and sadly- it froze ! ahah but thanks to your solution its working again. Dont know if the little bugger will freeze once more or not. Anyways Thanks!!!
dudes mine is like the same but none of the buttons work except to restart the ipod and i can shake shuffle thats it nothgin else so its ******* me off to and ive done everything restarted it and reprogramed it didnt work...help anyone?
Aloha and Mahalo! This did the trick for me. Very frustrating when my nano locks up. I believe this occurs when I have the hold/lock on and then connect the usb the ipod nano will just freeze. However, I restared by pressing the menus and center wheel simultaneously and viva la baam! It works! Much thanks!
You guys should check your firmware, I only recently downloaded a new update for my Ipod, or even if that doesn't work; try going to your local Apple shop, they should be able to help you out, or if you are still in warranty(most likely you are, because it only just released) then ask them for an exchange or ask them to fix it.
