It is quite possible that Sony makes the cable (usb probably) and uses Sony's proprietary software which works only for windows. The software captures the MiniDisc's audio in real time and allows you to save it as a readable format (not sure which one). The software probably rips as .wav which is full quality however the audio on your MiniDisc is Atrac 3 I believe and is already compressed (like Mp3) so if you can rip directly to MP3 or AAC that will save you some HD space.I would do a Google search on the topic I have found it hard to get info from Sony as well.
Cheers

With the Minidisc walkman, there is the NetMD thing still, isn't there? Some software that works with Windows (so you can just about use it with Virtual PC). You can then transfer songs from your Mac/virtual PC, to the minidisc. But, you can - as far as MY explorations have shown - only copy back tracks that have been put ON from your (or perhaps someone else's) computer. All the tracks I had recorded using a CD player and minidisc recorder showed up alright, but wouldn't transfer back to the Mac/VPC. So I gave it up as a bad job.

If I want to get stuff off the minidisc into MP3 on the Mac, I use AudioHiJack.

With Windows you may be able to find a TOSlink cable to transfer the music. If your MD player has an optical out that will work, as long as you have software to read the ATRAC format.

On a mac, or if you only have a headphone jack, you need a male to male stereo minicable, which you can get at radioshack or anywhere. If your computer doesn't have audio in, or only has line-level input, you may need some kind of USB interface to plug the cable into. For macs, the griffin imic is the most popular. You hook up the interface, connect the MD via the headphone jack with the stereo minicable and play your songs into whatever recording software you have on your computer.

Now, this is for the US. I believe that many of the MD models in Asia (if that's where you are) are considerably more talented this way.
