quicklookd crashing FontServer

OSX has been crashing ever since I created a pdf file.
If I browse to the location of this file Finder becomes unresponsive and I must reboot.
I verified that the problem was this file by renaming the extension to something different.

I'm a bit confused as what I am supposed to do here. I've contacted OpenOffice users list and this seems to be a common problem. They said to deactivate Spotlight search, however, the problem still persists.

I have temporarily removed my most recent files created with OO, however, I will find my macbook quite useless if I am unable to keep a repository of pdfs of my work.

I was fighting with the same problems and I was able to bypass them by downgrading to the ATSServer.framework (version 3.3, I think) of a 10.5.4 machine. Not a solution, of course, but I have not noticed any adverse effects and I hope it will last until a real fix is available (hope we don't have to wait for 10.5.6).

Cheers,
Christian

Hi,

I am having the same problem, but would rather not downgrade to 10.5.4 - does anyone have a copy of the ATSServer.framework package from a 10.5.4 installation that I could use to replace my current version? I'd be very grateful if someone could email/PM me with a copy!

A customer of mine went into the same problem. It was caused by 2 corrupted fonts. You can check your installed fonts consistency with Apple's Font Book app itself:

- Select all fonts in the left, then mark all fonts in the middle column.
- Choose File/Validate_Font
- Delete all "serious problem fonts" and examine all "minor problem fonts" If there is some other warning than "duplicate font", then delete it too.

After deleting the corrupted fonts, clear the font cache with Onyx: http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html

Here choose Cleanup/Fonts, check all and execute. After this reboot.
