Album Art Won't Sync

I have an iPod Touch 8GB. I am running iTunes 8 and the 2.1 software on the iPod. When I open iTunes, almost all albums in my library have album art. Almost none of my albums on the iPod have album art. I have deleted everything and resynced and that did not work. How do I get my album art onto the iPod?

That's odd, especially considering one doesn't really have the option to not sync album artwork to the iPod touch. Which makes sense, to a point, because Cover Flow looks silly without it. One thing you might try doing (as a test, first) is deleting the album artwork you have for one album, and then adding it back in (I have really good luck with Amazon.com for artwork), and then re-syncing the iPod to see if the artwork appears on the iPod. If so, do the same for the remainder of the songs you sync to the touch. (And yes, I do understand what a huge undertaking that might be).

What you might also try is re-creating your iTunes library file:

Note that this will reset certain data on the songs such as playcounts, ratings, and date added.

I have the same problem. My ipod touch wouldn't sync properly but now the album art wont load. I know the album art works because it was fine before the update. To try and solve the issue i have restored my ipod, and taken off all the album art and put it back on however the same problem still occurs. Its not a grey space for when there isnt any album art all all, its just a black square. You click the song and sometimes the album art is there, other times only half there. Then when you click back onto the albums page or turn it sideways some of the art is just a black square of nothing and this problem is there all the time. Ive tried lots of things but its since this update. How do i solve this problem?

I'm not sure if you're referring to an iPod software update, or the update to iTunes 8. I'm assuming the iPod software update, but let me know if I'm way off base with that. If the problem's been occurring since the update, and restoring it didn't fix it, I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the software file iTunes downloaded. It would have used the same file to initially install the update as well as to restore the software later on. Try deleting that software file, and then having iTunes try to restore the iPod in order to get it to download a new copy of that software.

First, turn on hidden files & folders:
Open up "My Computer" and click your Tools menu, then go to Folder Options. Select the View tab, and under the section for Advanced Settings, select "Show Hidden Files and Folders." Click Apply

The software is located here on Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\*your username*\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates\

Essentially, delete the contents of the folder "iPod Software Updates" and then try to restore the iPod in iTunes again.

Hope this is helpful

I don't understand all this "I get my artwork from Amazon" and such. If I go to my library and an album does not have art, I can right click on it and choose "Get album art" and then my album has art. It just won't sync to my iPod. The only art that syncs is art that is already there. What am I doing wrong? I want my album art on my freakin' iPod. My Zune never gave me this problem.

I understand your situation... what I meant by getting album artwork from Amazon.com is regarding albums I have in my library that are not available from the iTunes store, as iTunes cannot download artwork for these files. Or for any other album for which I can't seem to get album art from iTunes.

When you say that you deleted everything from the iPod and re-synced, did you just unsync and resync it? Or did you restore the iPod through iTunes? If you haven't already done so, I think at this point it might be wise to attempt the restore process. If this is something you are unfamiliar with, have a look at this document for some information:

Weird. When I go onto my PC and follow that location, I get an iTunes folder without a QuickTime folder. I doubt I've ever even opened QuickTime on the PC though (256 MB RAM... I don't use it for much). I would try running a search in Windows for "iPod Software Updates." Just go to Start > Search and choose the option for "all files and folders."
