.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.Apple Mail To Do/

Hello,

One morning Mail has created a directory on my IMAP box :

.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.INBOX.Apple Mail To Do/

Quiet funny...
Does somebody know why and how I could remove it ?
I have tried to delete it with "delete mailbox" but it reappears.

Thank you !

Macbook pro Second Gen, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Yes - it is a strange one. I was getting multiple mailboxes and constant Mail crashes when I had Safari 4 beta installed. If you are using Safari 4 beta then you need to uninstall it using the uninstaller in the original download package - it will reinstate Safari 3.

Here are some other things to try:

Firstly, 'Repair Permissions' using Disk Utility, and restart.

If Mail crashes upon opening, try holding down the shift-key when opening, then rebuild your mailbox - Menu/Mailbox/Rebuild.

Are you using Synchronization in System Preferences/MobileMe? If so, try turning it off. Also check that your computer appears under the 'Advanced...' button.

If all else fails, then move the 'Mail' folder in ~/Library/Mail to your Desktop (do NOT delete it at this stage). Also, move 'com.apple.mail.plist' from ~/Library/Preferences/ to your Desktop. You will need to setup your mailbox again when you open Mail - follow the default setup procedure and setup your mailbox as an IMAP account - it will synchronize/download the emails you have stored on the server if you have been saving your data there.

Test Mail and if it is OK, then you can import whatever data you have in the old Mail folder on your Desktop - Menu/File/Import Mailboxes/Mail for Mac OS X and navigate to the Mail folder on the Desktop, follow onscreen instructions.

Hope this helps.

Just to confirm the same issue here: Mail.app 3.5 on Mac OS 10.5.5 and Mail.app on iPhone 2.1. Mail server is courier-imap on Linux.

I can control the replicating mailboxes by deleting them on the server (both the .folders, the entries in the courierimaphieracl folder and the entries in the courierimapsubscribed file), but they'll invariably re-appear when I've accessed the server with either the iPhone Mail.app or webmail.

For some reason, a more lightly used account on the same server to which I also subscribe with the same Mail.app and iPhone Mail clients is not affected by the phenomenon.

There are also infrequent hangs on quit, but I'm not sure how or if they relate.
