DNS entries missing in Server Admin GUI

A reliably working 10.4 server has been upgraded/migrated to 10.5 server (10.5.0?1). Which has then been updated to 10.5.5

The DNS server is running correctly and all hostnames that were previously available are being resolved. Within the Server Admin app, the list of hosts is incomplete. Some of the hostnames that are being resolved are not listed.

If you view the zone file directly from within the terminal all the information is there.

Has anyone seen this problem, were the GUI for the DNS is not correctly representing that information in the zone file?

I am having trouble with the Server Admin DNS tool as well, but not from an upgrade. I installed 10.5.5 on XServe and want to migrate primary DNS from a Linux machine to the XServe. The tool is almost unusable because it reverts to a 10.0.0. IP range, looses all the records in the zone and generally seems to be unable to retain data that is entered.

Client: MacbookPro running Mac OS X 10.5.5 fully updated and Server Admin tools from the 1055 DMG file on this site. ( http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/serveradmintools1055.html )
Server: XServe dual quad-core 2.8 running Mac OS X Server 10.5.5 fully updated.
The machines are on the same LAN segment.

To re-create this problem:
1) Open Admin Tool on the client, connect to server and select DNS service and the Zones tab.
-- Note: DNS service is not running.
2) Select the primary zone in the list and click 'Add Record -> Add Machine'.
3) Enter data into the record, at least the name and the IP address.
4) Click 'Save' in the lower right corner.
-> Display updates to show the zone and reverse lookup, but no machines in either. In addition, a bogus 10.0.0. reverse zone appears.
-> Inspection of the zone shows that the admin email, nameservers and mail exchange data is also missing.

Is there no way to simply ** import my existing zone files ** to configure the server? Surely this is not a difficult procedure - to include 'import' and 'export' for DNS records that read/write normal zone files. I am managing a small LAN (less than 50 machines), so manual entry of this information is not impossible though is is error prone, inefficient and cumbersome.

As it is, I have not yet been able to make the XServe the primary DNS controller.

What is the best way for me to get the XServe configured?
