Is there a way to recover your iTunes music library after your hard drive crashes if the files are not backed up or on an iPod?

HP, Windows XP

Depends on your definition of "hard drive crashes". It may well be possible to get an non-bootable system disk to function in an external drive bay long enough to recover useful information from it. I have done this for friends on a number of occassions. It make take several attempts at powering up the drive in the bay before it actually connects but if you can get it to do so then there is a good chance that you can recover media & other data.

I have just had a new motherboard and processor installed. Thanks to a backup programme, I have my music and movie that I purchased, but I can't find out how to get ITunes to recognise these items and then to play them.

Is there a way to recover my itunes library if my hard drive has been professionally diagnosed as "bad" and is now being replaced? It happened 36 hours before I lost my old ipod (have replaced it since then). I had about 2 years worth of purchases and would like to get the tunes back. Any idea how I would go about doing this?

I refer you back to my earlier answer. Who is replacing it for you? Will they attempt a recovery for you. Do you at least get to keep the old drive so you can try hooking it up in an external bay/secondary internal bay? I've seen "unbootable" machines that are just riddled with viruses or have fritzed BIOS settings. It all depends on circumstance, but sometimes the data can be recovered when accessed via another system.

I can't find my music after all and I am not sure what I have found of my video is actually a playable video or just the cover of the video. It appears from what I have read, that I have to re-purchase these things again if I want them.
