NSLog - Quick Dumb Question

OK, where does the output appear when putting NSLog statements in your code? I can't find it.

I've put code in like NSLog(@"Got here") and enumeration of dictionaries but nothing ever shows up in the Simulator/Debug Debugger Console. Isn't that where it's supposed to be?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Either the system console (use console.app) or the debugger window in Xcode (if you are running under the debugger). On an un-tethered iPhone you can review the console contents from the Organizer window.

Thanks. I didn't even know there was a Console app around (or why one would ever use it) and that showed the output from my cod. Still haven't seen it anywhere in the debugger window in Xcode though.

The window you're looking for is the Xcode Console window. In the old Xcode it used to pop up all the time whether you wanted it or not.

Under Xcode 3.x you want to do: Run > Console (or shift-command-R) and once it's open it should stay open while you work. Also helpful is the Run > Clear Console command they finally added.

The Xcode Console window only shows messages from NSLog when running from the device (I never knew that) and is not much help when running the Simulator (and that's what I was using).

The Console.app does get the output from the Simulator but is congested with all the garbage collection crap from the system.

I guess I'll learn to debug more from the device. Thanks.

I had that problem too but it vanished without any specific action i'm aware of. Since that time the console windows show NSLog-output wehter i run my apps on the device or the simulator.
