Printing 16x9 format borderless prints

Hello,
I need help, I have a problem in iPhoto '08 which I did not have in iPhoto 6:

Im using a Powerbook G4 17" on OS 10.4.11, iPhoto '08 (v 7.1.4) and a HP Photosmart 8450 printer.
I have a Leica D-Lux 3 digicam (same as the Panasonic LX-2) which takes photos on 16x9 format.

The problem:
Previously, using iPhoto 6, I was able to properly print these 16x9 photos on A4 or US Letter size paper in borderless format i.e. the entire photo would be printed un-cropped, the left and right edges of the photo would extend right to the edge of the print with no border showing, (but because of the 16x9 format of the photo, there would be a white band/border on the top and bottom). This was the way I wanted the print to be, so that I could make use of the full width of the paper, printing the photo to the left/right edges of the paper but without cropping the left/right edges of the photo.

Now with iPhoto '08, I find that in printing in borderless format, iPhoto '08 compulsorily scales the photo to fill the entire page, top/bottom too, with the result that the left/right edges of the photo are cropped.
I do not want that to happen, I want to print the full image in borderless format, so that the left/right edges are not cropped, (but of course the top/bottom will have a border/band because of the 16x9 format). But I can't find a setting of the print parameters using iPhoto '08 that will print the photo like that.
I have tried all the options in iPhoto, including the "Advanced" print settings where in the "Paper Handling" settings I have un-checked the "Scale to fit" option.

Can someone please suggest a solution?
Thanks in advance!

If I understand your post, you want to fill the page without any cropping of the photo. I would try this.

1. Select your photo; click on "Edit".

2. Click on "Crop": in the drop-down menu, select "Custom".

3. Enter the actual dimensions of the paper on which you wish to print- 11 x 8.5.

4. From there go to print; check the preview to see if this produces the result you want.

I hope this helps.

I was able to get what you want using a modified version of what Glo H suggested. But it took me ab out 7 or 8 tries.

1 - click on print
2 -set paper size= 11x8.5 borderless
3 - se custom print size= 16x9. ( I had to enter the 9 size in the right hand field first and then the 16)

After multiple tries the preview gave me what you described. When I tried a second photo the settings remained and were brought up automatically. But it was a real pain for the first photo.
