Since recent update, my iPhone contacts have disappeared several times. They are recoverable, but what's happening?

Mac OS X (10.5)

I am having the same problem. It has happened twice before. The contacts disappear, and then once before they came back on their own. This time I have been waiting for them to return (from Mobile Me) and they have not done so. I spoke with one other iPhone (2G) owner today who was having the same problem.

Make sure you keep push contacts enabled on your phone if you are using Mobile Me. If you turn off push contacts, the contacts will disappear.

This keeps happening to me too. My contacts don't seem to come back until I delete my mobile me account on the phone and then re-create it. After 20 mins the contacts are back. This needs to be fixed ASAP. The iphone is not a viable phone for me if I'm going to randomly go to make a call and find my contacts are not there!

I'm having the exact same problem. It only started the other day but the contacts will disappear a number of times during the day, and then randomly come back. I have yet ti figure out a way to get it sorted. I think I will have to make a genius appointment...

That's not entirely true. I guess it depends on how you've set it up, but I've been using MobileMe with contacts since the Push feature came out, though I set push to "off" because of the battery usage, so I only have "manual" sync. Whenever I launch contacts/calendar it will sunc (unless it synced recently). And so far, never had my contacts disappeared.

    So it should work fine

this is happening to me almost daily now. it seems to be getting worse and worse.

i've even added people to my address book, who have called me, and they never make it to the cloud. I've added someone 3 times now and still, they don't make it onto my desktop after a sync.

I'm thinking about turning Push off, which makes me VERY sad indeed.

So the manual setting makes it so it only syncs when you launch Contacts and calendar??? Or do i need to sync with my desktop??

    "Push setting

With the Push setting enabled, your calendars and contacts are updated when they receive notice of a change from the MobileMe servers. The changes happen automatically.

    Manual

When manually syncing, your data syncs with MobileMe each time you open Contacts or Calendars (up to once per minute)."

This happening to me daily and it has nothing to do with keeping "push" on. I do this. Contacts are there, then disappear, then re-appear without me doing anything to the phone or adjusting any setting, re-syncing etc. The issue appears to be with the "cloud" in Mobile Me. I have searched the threads on this discussion and there does not seem to be a good answer so I am beginning to believe that this is another shortcoming of Mobile Me.

I've just started having this problem for the past few weeks. Contacts are all present and correct, then suddenly there are none. First I usually know is when I double-press to go to favourites, and all I see is a list of numbers with no names. Selecting Contacts proves that yes, they've all gone. Some time later they all reappear again.

Is it time to give up on 'push' syncing again?
