Keep Wifi active even if locked?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if there is a way to easily keep my iPod Touch active and on Wifi even if I lock it? Basically I'm just wanting to blacken out the screen to save on the screen (much like a screen saver). Battery life isn't an issue, I would just like it to continually sync up via Fetch while saving on the screen.

Any suggestions or advice are appreciated. Thanks!

In sleep mode, with fetch set to check every few minutes, I believe that this is its normal state. I also believe that this is what is causing the battery drain over night for some users, due to fetch checking on email every few minutes, over night.

The WiFi would have to stay connected, for this to keep checking, in sleep mode, with the screen turned off in sleep mode.

What I'm noticing is that if I lock my iPod, after 5 or so minutes, it loses the wifi connection, as the moment I unlock it, it picks up the wifi connection again. Seems to shut everything down when I lock it. According to what you've said, this should not be happening, as everything should continue to run in the background while locked. Can anyone confirm?

This is a 2nd gen iPod Touch.
