Can't see Users Public folder share from windows or linux.

Okay so on my Macbook I can see the public folder on my imac but when viewed from my Vista PC or Ubuntu I can see all the shares except the public folder. Any ideas about that? I have two users on the iMac in question and only one of the public folders is visible.

It's not for sharing with Windows or Linux but with other users on the same machine. If you want Windows or Linux to access a folder on a Mac then the machines must be on a network and you must activate File Sharing in the Sharing preferences. An individual folder can easily be shared by selecting it, pressing COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window, and checking the box labeled Shared Folder in the General pane. You will then need to log onto the Mac from your Windows or Linux machine using a username and password for an existing account on the Mac such as your user account.

Sharing is enabled on the Mac. I have two external drives that are shared and the other user account on the iMac are are visible on the PC and Linux box just not my users public folder which is also shared. From my Macbook I can access my shared public users folder just not from the non OSX machines, the other users public folder is accessible from all.

I don't have an answer for you. Since this works on the other computer but not on yours it would seem a problem specific to your computer or configuration. Are you able to access other folders on this computer besides the Public folder?

From the MacBook to the iMac I can see and access all the shares. From the Vista and Ubuntu PC I can see all the shares except the one specific users folder and access all the other shares.

Okay so I just did a fresh install of Leopard on the iMac and enabled all the sharing and stuff and still can't see the Windows computer show up in the finder.

About 98.9% of the time, a reinstall is not the answer.
Does the iMac have the workgroup set the same as the Windows comp? Same subnet?

Well I figured it would be good to start fresh anyways. yes they are on the same subnet, same workgroup. and sharing is set on both the windows machine and the iMac. My MacBook also can not see the windows machine in finder.

If you use Connect to Server… can you connect with either the iMac or the Macbook?

Yep connects just fine but don't see anything in the finder. Nor does it mount it on the desktop.

Try Relaunching the Finder through the Force Quit… dialog.
Or, try removing the com.apple.sidebarlists.plist file from your user/Library/Preferences folder. You'll have to restore any custom items you've added or deleted from the sidebar.
