Opening zipped & exe files

How do I open downloaded files that are zipped or in .exe format? When I click on them, nothing happens.

You cannot open .exe files. I am thinking that you are new to Mac. I had the same problem too when I switched to a mac. So then, exe means executable, and you can't use it for mac. dmg files are for mac, and not for windows..

The only way you can use .exe files on a mac, if you installed boot camp, and it is supposed to be pre-installed onto your laptop if your running leopard. When you install Boot camp, be sure to have as much space as possible for the windows part, because a lot of people use more stuff on windows, and you can run either windows, or windows vista. You can choose I suppose.

thanks for the replies. No, I'm not new to Mac but I hadn't come across having to open these files in a long while - not since I got a Mac a year and a half ago. Why are people/companies still putting things out in this form when they must know a ton of people can't open them? Doesn't seem like good business practice. The zipped file I got was from a well known reputable online selfpublishing company.

I got a similar file from another publishing company last week. I queried them about it and they just said their products weren't Mac compatible but they were "working on it"! I asked them if they had been in an Apple store lately!!!
