Listening to nano through ipod dock and external speakers

thats got it. i was pretty upset when it didnt play through my car stereo (i use the cd ir10 to interface my ipod with my deh 4600) this morning...glad to see someone figured it out. way to go!!!
it's a bit weird though for me- when the backlight goes off, the nano directly goes to pause. i have to hit play BEFORE i plug in my nano to the ip bus.

Been having the same problem with the Nano and the Belkin Car Adapter, no sound out of the line-out port. This is obviously a problem with a few nanos (glad im not an isolated case), so apple should be alerted so they can hopefully fix it with 1.1 fw.

We did not have the same experience you are claiming regarding the nano.

Our iPod nano worked fine with the Logitech mm50 external speakers. The only connection was via the dock. It also worked fine when connected to our car stereo via the headphone line out.

I also have an iPod Nano 4GB and i have the Apline unit in my truck. I have had a similar problem however mine is a little more interesting. I would pause my music unplug the headphones (or sometimes visa-vesa) then plug it into my truck, then the audio would come through the truck sterio as a data stream not as an audio stream. However as soon as i restarted the iPod (menu & select buttons) it would play just fine. I had an iPod 4GB mini and it worked perfectly fine w/ my truck. (side note: I do work for Apple at the retail level)

hmmm, sounds like you just answered the question I posted a couple of minuts ago. Sounds like the nano really doesn't have line out audio through the dock connection.

You are probably seeing a connector alignment issue, since the mini dock was not designed for the nano. The dock connector type was not designed to provide primary support for cradling the device.

My nano works fine in my 60 gig photo dock connected via usb and in my original In Motion speakers. I want to make a foam piece though to support the back so I don't break off the dock connector.

What steps do I need to take to do the "restore"?

use the Ipod Updater, you can get it from the download page from Apple. it gives you a choice to update the software or restore to factory settings.

so restore and all should work

I ran it the other day and didnt see any choice to do that. do i need to wipe out itunes or do something else?

I tried the updated and the reset function. I still get no sound on with my Pioneer CD-IB100. Any ideas ?

Correct. I did a "restore" from the update program but it's still not working...:(

Hmmm not sure how to help. What type of device is your Pioneer CD?

I have a Pioneer DEH-P7700MP and a CD-IB100.

Had the same problem (no audio on line out) and the soft reset did fix the problem.
