Samsung Writer for MAC

i just bought a samsung DVD writer super-writemaster for my G5 OS X(10.4.11) and put it in an external case and it doesnt work, on toast 9 it say's no recorder found please check cables and power, but it;s already connected and powered, when i open my system profiler to check my firewire all it says is " Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec" (does this mean that) is there a driver that i need to download for it to work on apple?

That means the drive is not being detected at all, just the FireWire bus. No driver will fix that. Did you set the drive jumper to Master? Did you connect the power cable to the drive, in addition to the flat cable? Does the drive tray open if you press its eject button?

There is no region 0 setting. New drives are often shipped set to no region. They will have to be set to a region before they will play a DVD. After that, you can change the region only four more times. With some drives, you can play DVDs of any region, without having to change the drive to match, by playing DVDs with VLC
