iPod Touch 2g won't turn on, charge, or react in any way.
Ok, so here's what happened. I fell asleep last night with my ipod touch 2g on my nightstand without any earphones in. I was planning to use the alarm feature to get up this morning. I have been using the alarm lately, and I am very happy with it. Anyways, I woke up a bit before my alarm was supposed to go off, wondering what time it was. I reached over and tried to turn my ipod on (it was already on, but just turn the screen on by hitting the top button). And nothing happens. So my brand new ipod touch 2g will not turn on, or off if it is on. Nothing will do anything, the rocker switch, holding in the turn on button, the home button, nothing. It had full battery. It won't react if I plug it into my macbook with the connector cable. I don't know what to do. Please help!
It does not show up in iTunes. Pretty much all of it does is sit there and look like an ipod touch. I have two apple stores nearby, so thank you, I will make an appointment. Thanks!
The exact same thing happened to both my iPod Touch 2G and my dad's iPod Touch 1G today around 5:30 EST. We simply had to reset them by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and Home button for a few seconds. After that they were just fine. Hope this helps!
Hey! That worked. Thanks a bunch. But does anyone know why it has to be reset? Before you answer that question, the between my first post and this one, my ipod managed to reset itself, and turned itself on. Then it went blank again. It happened overnight, I was using it as an alarm. Does anyone know why this is happening?
i have just experienced the same problem... my ipod touch 2g won't turn on, charge or react in anyway... unfortunately the Reset also is not working for me as it did in your case.. What are my options now?
help the same thing happened. i fell asleep with my ipod searching for a wifi network. when i wake up i pick up my touch ait wonturn on. i try practically everything in my power to turn it on. so now i have confornt apple. i have no apple stores nearby but can the people at best buy help me?
If you've tried holding down the power button for several seconds and you're still getting nothing you may need to try a hard restore.
here's how to do it on Mac OS:
1. Connect you're iPod to the computer with the sync cable, and open iTunes.
2. Hold down the power and home buttons for 10 seconds, then release the power button (continuing to hold the home button for about another 6-8 seconds). iTunes should display a message stating that the iPod is in restore mode and needs to be restored before it can be used (or something to that effect).
3.Hitting the restore button will likely give an error message. You'll need to hold down option and click the restore button, which will bring up a file browser. Navigate to *<your user name>/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/* and choose
iPod2,12.2.1_5H11aRestore.ipsw (or similar ipsw file depending on your ipod, or iphone, generally choose the newest one) and click open.
4. Wait for it to restore, when that's finished you should be able to further restore it using the backup that was generated when you last synced it.
I have never done this on windoze, but I imagine it's quite similar, just not sure where you'd find the ipsw file.
I've fixed! i had exactly the same problem so i just randomly held down the home and the power button then my boot logo came up so i hit the home button and it's fine now. Hope this works for you.
