Capital letters on iphone 3G

I cannot write in capital letters on my iphone.On the keybord settings I have auto-capitalization on, enable caps lock on. What is the way to be able to write in caps?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

On the keyboard, you see the shift key? the Up arrow next to the Z, you double tap that to do a capslock.

Tap the "Shift" key once for typing the next letter in CAPS. "Shift" key turns to a solid white arrow.

Tap the "Shift" key twice for typing everything in CAPS. "Shift" button turns blue and the arrow turns solid white.
