Nano in your car

Apple has a pretty extensive site now talking about both OEM solutions - http://www.apple.com/ipod/ipodyourcar/ and After-market solutions - http://www.apple.com/ipod/ipodyourcar/accessories.html.

From what I have read most solutions that utilize the iPod dock conenctor also work with the Nano, but there are a few exceptions.

If you car radio has cd changer controls then you can get an interface that will direct connect your iPod nano. I just ordered one for my PT Cruiser Convertible.

I'm still waiting on a review of the Audiobahn A1200N. It seems like functionality of most iPod compatable head-unit solutions have been disappointing, hopefully this one will be better.

I have a Sony deck which has an AUX (in back). I snaked a patch cord out through the ashtray and my iPod hangs from the air conditioner vent. Having the earphone jack on the bottom makes this work more nicely than with my 40 gig iPod.

I have wondered about that option for a long time and NO ONE seems to know about it. Many CD players for the car have an interface to hook up to an external changer. I have NO idea what kind of plug you need. (Are they standard? Or does every brand have its interface so you can only use, say, a Sony changer with a Sony head unit?)

Is there anyone else out there who is into car stereo that can shed some more light on this? It HAS to be a better option than playing through the stinkin radio or cassette player!!

The one that I got allows me to control the basic functions through the cd changer controls, and since my radio is a RDS radio, it will also display information about the playing song on the radio display.

If you look up "ipod radio interface" in Google you will come across a number of providers of the interface. Once you go to one of their sites, they will say whether or not they support you vehicle.

I used to have a 20gb ipod that worked great in my car with my monster radio adapter. I recently bought an ipod nano and hooked it up to my monster adapter and it doesn't work at all... is the nano not compatible?

Some of the adapters are dependent on the version of the iPod software. You probably need to contact the maker of the Monster adapter and ask them.

After unplugging your headphones from the nano, reset the nano (press and hold the Menu button and Select (center) button) for 4-5 seconds until you see the Apple logo on the nano screen. Then connect it to the iCarPlay. That should make the nano work with it.

I had an ipod connection fitted into my car through my sony head unit. all song data came up on my cd player and played the songs. but no audio came from the speakers. the audio electritions rang apple any were told that they were working on some softwear 4 the nano th play through car cd players but it wasnt ready yet. no date on when it will b ready either. other ipods work fine. just not the nano

Most of the time... a simple cable from the iPod's headphone port to the AUX IN port of the head unit is all you need. Cost? About $5.00 to $25.
