Help?! Unable to download app onto iphone or itunes

I've searched these forums and can't seem to find a solution:

I used to have the app AIR SHARING on my phone but it crashed when I tried to update it about a week ago (after the 2.1 update.) Ever since then, when I attempt to download it from the app store straight to my iphone, it stalls halfway through the installation and I get an error message telling me UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD - THIS APP WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD NEXT TIME YOU SIGN IN TO ITUNES.

Except the only problem is that it isn't available. When I attempt to sync air sharing to my phone from itunes I get another message saying 'Unknown Error OXE800002E' I have tried EVERY possible combination... deauthorizing/re-authorizing...signing out/signing in... Restoring the iphone... I've restarted my computer, re-installed itunes 8. I've deleted air sharing from itunes and re-downloaded. I've synced my apps without air sharing, then tried with. I've tried everything. I've called Apple... and I've even been to the genius bar at the Apple store where they were absolutely no help at all. They couldn't figure it out and pretty much told me tough luck.

Bottom line... I can't get air sharing on my phone no matter what I try.

It's almost like some part of the air sharing app is stuck on my phone and it's conflicting with every new install I attempt. <edited by host> Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I used a backup from about a week ago. The only backup i have further back than that one is from June. I haven't used that one yet because I have about five hundred photos on my camera roll and if I go back that far I'll lose most of them. I know I can save them onto my computer... but from what I can tell, there is no way to get them back onto my actual camera roll.

Also, i went through he** rigging all the mail settings on my phone so that I can reply from email addresses other than my Mobile Me address, which unfortunately Apple doesn't allow you to do. I actually don't even remember what I did, all I know is I finally got it to work right after weeks of trying. So, I was hoping to just find a solution other than a complete restore where I wipe most everything out.

To Everyone who is having the "unable to download application x.... download from itunes" problem. This happened to my iphone today and like many of you I also panicked. I even went as far as to thinking that my iPhone had been hacked with malware or that it was damaged. So... I restored it, three times thinking it would do the trick. It didn't. I finally did something simple and it got my iPhone downloading apps again.

Go to Settings->Safari->Accept Cookies->Choose "From visited" or "Always".

If you happened to have "Never", this will never work.

I hope this helps. This is not the only solution out there but its the only thing that worked for my iPhone and now I can download applications at will again.

I'm the original poster of this topic and I thought I'd just drop in to say that I STILL have this nightmare problem. I STILL don't have air sharing. Now on top of that my phone has gotten to where it asked me to sign in to my itunes account like five times a day for no reason. The shine on Apple is fading fast with me. So sick of this closed world one has to live in when using Apple products.

When you start reaching out to the masses like Apple is trying to do these days, productivity is king. The masses don't care about some hip, niche market... they won't their phones and Mobile Me's to be open and user-friendly. Not some complicated ordeal that sends you to these forums for hours trying to figure out how to fix just little problems.

Step 1: Make sure the Air Sharing application is in your iTunes Library (and any other application you want to keep).
Step 2: Sync your iPhone without syncing Applications. You can do this by selecting your iPhone in the Devices menu and unselecting "Sync Applications" in the "Applications" tab in iTunes.
Step 3: Restore your iPhone
Step 4: Choose to restore from the backup you just took by syncing your iPhone with iTunes. There should be NO APPLICATION DATA in this backup since you turned off Application syncing.
Step 5: Turn on Application syncing and select the apps you would like to sync.
Step 6: Sync your iPhone

You should now have Air Sharing and any other Applications on your iPhone.

I posted this without thinking things through...

If Air Sharing is in your iTunes library, you should be able to simply delete the application from your iPhone by holding your finger on the application icon and clicking the little X that comes up when the icons go wiggly. Then sync away since the application data is erased when you delete an app from your iPhone.

This works fine for application which do not have personalized settings. However if they do you have to start over . For example if you use Blumberg you would have to re-input all your stock symbols every time a new version of the app. came out. Same goes for any application that has an ID and password saved.

It seems amazing to me that Apple is ignoring a problem this widespread and this severe.

At risk of sounding like an ***...

The time that you've spent trying to get a fix for your problem could have been spent re-entering your application settings.

I understand that this is a problem, but I don't see how it is widespread or severe. I guess it's all in your perception. I use Air Sharing as well and haven't had this issue. Along with that I use 20+ other applications that I've had little to no problem with.

As far as Apple ignoring a problem...I doubt that they are ignoring any of the problems that arise with their products. They have to prioritize what they fix vs. what new features they offer. It's a matter of business. Besides that, this forum is a User-to-User forum. The people who make the decisions about what to fix in Apple products probably aren't paying too much attention to this. I would suggest using the form at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html to send feedback to the iPhone team.

If you haven't tried this yet, give it a shot:

1. Restore your phone with the 2.1 firmware.
2. DO NOT RESTORE YOUR BACKUP FILE YET
3. Go to the appstore and install Air Sharing (if it works continue below)
4. Before you connect your phone to your computer open iTunes and delete the Air Sharing app from your computer, not your phone.

Now here comes the issue: If you restore your backup there is the possibility that it will corrupt the AirSharing app and you'll have the same problem. If you don't mind losing your SMS, Voicemail, Call History, and Safari Bookmarks then don't restore your backup file and just connect it to your itunes as a new iPhone. If you want to risk having the problem with Air Sharing again, then restore your backup and see what happens, the Air Sharing app might still work, or the backup file will still hold remnants of the Air Sharing app problem and corrupt it again.

Good Luck!
