Bose Companion 3 Speaker Connection Problem

Hello all,
I have had an ongoing thing with these Bose speakers. I love the sound I get from them if they work. I get sound out of only one speaker unless I wiggle the plug in the audio jack or unplug and plug them in again. Then and only then i can get sound out of both. This is an intermittent problem that i've been working with for a bit so far I have taken the following actions:

-Exchanged the speakers for another pair, still having a problem with them
-Took my 2 month old Imac to the local applecare repair facility to which they said they replaced the soundcard

After each one of these actions the speakers worked for several days and then the same thing has happened. Does anyone have any ideas or ways they might be able to help me? Someone mentioned that there is a plug adapter due to the fitment in the apple audio jack. I have yet to find this online, only things for the iphone.

Intel IMAC, Mac OS X (10.5.2), 4GB RAM
