Bluetooth keyboard and mouse disconnect too often

Randomly the keyboard will just disconnect from the computer and when it does it makes the mouse less responsive. Usually after a couple of minutes it will re-connect but sometimes it takes a full restart.
I have tried to re-sync the mouse and keyboard a couple of hundred times over the past year but nothing seems to help.
I have obviously changed the batteries so please save those suggestions.
could there be a conflict between the two?

Thanks for the help

Hello overland:

Welcome to Apple discussions.

Anything is possible, but I doubt if there is a conflict.

Is the KB still in warranty? If it is, I would call Applecare with a warranty issue and have it replaced. If it is not, you could also go to an Apple store and discuss the problem with someone at the "genius" bar.

The only thing that "might" help is resetting the PRAM:

There is no setting (that I am aware of) that would cause such an intermittent problem.

Don't know if this will help your particular situation, but in my case it did with my bluetooth connection to my mighty mouse.
Remove the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file from the Preference folder (Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist). When you removed that file to the trash, erase the trash file, shutdown the computer and then start it again, it immediately recognized the mouse and asked to confirm the pairing.

I was wrong, i thought i had solved the issue by changing wifi channels, but after a couple of hours it started to play up again. I have tried all sorts now, all wifi channels, re pairing, PRAM and SMC resets. I don't think there is anything else that i can do and it is starting to get pretty annoying. I'm just going to try and get it into an Apple store ASAP. At least i now know that other people have, or are experiencing the same issue... so it's not just me.

I am having the same problem with my keyboard. It suddenly loses the bluetooth connection and I have to set it up again, which means turning it off and on again before going through the set up procedure, and even then it doesn't find the keyboard first time - and yes, the batteries are ok. It does this about 3 times a day. I am using an iMac G5 with OS X.4.11, so it is not only a X.5 issue. Where on the computer is the bluetooth receptor? Could it be that it needs cleaning in some way?
Thanks!

Hi everybody - my first post!
I was trying to find a solution on the issue you all guys have...I have the same prblem. It happens on 5.5 Leopard on my Mac Mini. After couple minutes of use my wireless apple keyboard is loosing connection - in the same time my wireless apple mouse is slowing down until the connection of the keyboard is restored. I checed my Internet Connection settings - I do not have BT as a internet source.
I use Time Capsule as a WiFi base station and it stands just next to Mac Mini. Maybe it interferes? Any other ideas? I haven't have that problem with my MacBook Pro on Tiger before (only with the scroll which is crappy).
I do not want to go wired as I have my LCD TV plugged in as a monitor - so I need to user wireless stuff sitting on my sofa 🙂 Any new solutions of the problem are so welcome.
I have my key on warranty of course but how to prove the problem as it not happens on the regular basis and every time? I can bet when I go to apple store it will not happen... 😟

Please help!
Best - Daniel

I, too, have been having bluetooth issues with my aluminum keyboard and mighty mouse. It connects, but the keyboard disconnects often, and within a few seconds reconnects. The mouse becomes very choppy. I have found that the turning the mouse off and back on, fixes the issue temporarily, and the keyboard isn't as frustrating as it comes back on its own quickly. It has nothing to do with AirPort, as I have researched this months ago and checked all of these.

I have a Logitech BT Dinovo Edge I occasionally use as well, I thought it was interfering, but it actually seems worse when I disconnect/unpair it.

This seems like maybe its just defective BT radios? Maybe the few of us just got the bad ones... Now we just have to see if replacing them might be the solution... I'll let you know how it goes.
