Ipod Malfunction?!?!

Whenever I plug my Ipod Classic into my computer, it doesnt show up on Itunes. It wont synch or anything. The only thing that happens when I plug it in is that a window pops up that says "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows can not recognize it."
How do I fix this?? Im really confused and can't figure it out.
