The problem I can see already with both of these is that the mating connector is too shallow.

How many of us already have the iPhone in some sort of protective case? That battery appears to want
To mate close to the iPhone. Given that I cannot see how it would fit with the case.

Further being that is the only connection point I would be fearful of a stress fracture at that location!

There are also the type that's an external battery pack with a cable:

By the way, there's a good thread on this over here:

I'm personally liking the Mophie Juice pack design. It's not something I'd have on my phone all of the time. Probably just to charge it while mobile or watching movies on a plane, etc. But I can see the advantages being:
A) You could slap it in for an entire day and deal with the bulk if you knew you'd have a long day (like at a trade show, a lot of traveling, etc.)
B) Might be less conspicuous going through airport security. ??
C) Offers case-like protection. Obviously you'll have to take it out of the case to put this on and this wraps it well.

I use the RichardSolo battery backup and no issues here...
I also use it in conjuction with my SENA magnet-flipper case.
I can see where there may be issues with accidently bumping the battery charger and breaking-off the connector when attached to the iPhone... guess you just have to be careful. I make it a habit of not using my iPhone with the RichardSolo attached. I don't have the battery issues many describe on these blogs, but when needed the RichardSolo has been well worth the investment.
