17" WUXGA Glossy Screen on an Older Macbook Pro

Hi all, the title pretty much tells you what I'm asking - is it possible to replace the standard display (1600X1050) on my Macbook Pro (17") with a WUXGA (1900X1200) display?

My current display is starting to show weird signs so it's off to Apple to be repaired / replaced. I'm thinking of asking if I can pay the balance to have the upgraded screen instead. Is it possible, does anyone know?

(For the record, my current screen looks like it has a few water drops on the inside of the unit!)

Very slim chance. The LCD controller is specifically programmed for that particular LCD panel, and the LVDS cable between them is specifically made for that combination. If you get a replacement LCD panel that Apple has/had as a BTO option on the macbook pro you have, then you're probably alright. This is because the LCD controller is probably programmed for all available BTO options for the mac it's in. Does that make sense?
