Unresolved Photoshop CS2 Twain Issue

Hi,

I have an the issue with Adobe Photoshop CS2, when loading it crashes while building twain menu, if I remove the Twain Plugin from the plugins folder in Photoshop then Photoshop launches but this does not solve my problem as i can't scan from Photoshop now. I have read and attempted what is explained on this forum http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7018724#7018724 but it does not solve my problem. I have uninstalled all Cannon software and all Photoshop related files from my mac and reinstalled with the latest drivers but still no luck. the Strange thing is that it was working fine a couple of days ago, nothing changed, it just randomly stopped working.

Can anyone please help me with this issue?? I have a cannon Perfection 3490Photo scanner. thanks

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.5), Photoshop CS2

Hi , and a warm welcome to the forums! 🙂

Have you done any OS/Disk Maintenance Lately, if not at least start with this...

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

If you need a workaround until we can solve this problem, VueScan can scan into PhotShop if you wish...

See notes here on the 3490...

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...

I see you are running Leopard 10.5. Your post will receive more exposure to Leopard users here:
http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=235 But before you do that ...

Try BDAqua's advice, if the problem still exists ... I had a similar situation. I unplugged everything including the Mac desktop I was using at the time. Disconnected all peripherals, turned off my network (Airport), and shut down the Mac. Waited a good ten minutes. Rebooted the Mac. When it's finally to the Desktop, reconnect your scanner and then turn it on. Launch Photoshop, click File/Twain (I think it's still available from "File" in the Menu Bar?) and see if your Twain driver is available and works. Twain drivers can be finicky.

Hi, Reading your discussion I think it might relate to de issue I'm experiencing. (sorry for my language, I'm Dutch)
A week ago Adobe PhotoShop Elements 3.0 worked fine. Then HP ?helped? me installing my C5280 all-in-one printer, problems with creating PDF-Files. They advised me to delete de contents of the "Cashes-folder", as well a lot of files in de "Preferences", all to do with HP or Print.
Now, when I try to start PSE-3.0, I get this massage "The programm PhotoShop Elemenents is unexpected stopped" choose [Quit], [Report] or [Open again].
I have run the installation again, not working. I thrown the folder in the trash, emptied the trash and installed again, same result, not working. Downloaded trail-version PSE-6.0, same result, also not working.
Help from Apple and Adobe, same as mentioned, they blame each-other. so no help.
I'm nearly at the point of total re-install from OS X 10.4.4 but you have to know, " I love the MAC but I'm a knit-with for IT technology.
So, I hope somebody can help me, has a good idea before I throw myself in the unknown world of re-installation.

A little background; after 1000 crashes with my windows computer I have thrown it out and bought myself an Apple. Up to now, very satisfied!!! This is the first real problem, I hope I will not be disappointed so I can tell my "Windows-friends", Apple is still the best.

Regards, Erik

Okay, sorry, but I have no idea of what these files are called in Dutch, so you'll have to figure that part out yourself:

go to your username>library>preferences folder and delete:

com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist
PSE 3.0 Paths
PSE 3.0 Settings
Opera preferences

repair permissions and relaunch PSE. If it still crashes, go to applications>PSE>plug-ins>import/export and delete the Adobe TWAIN driver.

"PS what does a twain-driver?"
A twain driver provides functionality from a software program and hardware. So in this case you could be running Photoshop and be able to use your scanner from that program.
"How and where do I repair permissions??"
In your Utilities folder launch Disk Utility. Select your HD from the left side column and then select Repair Permissions.
