Sync time? How long should it take?

I have just finished a big project of copying most of our classical CDs in lossless into iTunes.

About how long should I expect it to take to sync 60GB onto my 160GB iPod Classic? There is presently about 15GB on the iPod that will have to be compared to the new material.

I have 50gb of music to sync and it didnt take to long, only delay was the artwork but all in all it took 10 mins there abouts

Just to let anyone else know who may come here looking for the answer.

I had 2000 "songs" mostly movements of longer pieces - all in lossless. About 65GB of material.

I am still using iTunes 7.6

It took one hour to download the music from a USB 2 cable.

This took a lot longer than I thought.

I assume it's because the music was in lossless and the tags were long and complicated (mostly classical, some Asian with Chinese or Japanese tags).

Whatever the cause for the long sync time, it's done now, and I can safely (I hope) update iTunes to v8 x...

I have a 160gb classic and load about 140gb of music, almost all MP3, some AAC. It takes over 5 hours to reload my Classic.

I just bought the new iPod Classic 120 Gb about two weeks ago. After setting up iTunes 8, I synced the iPod and transferred ~65 Gb of tagged MP3's. It took about 3h.

Note that I have a rather old PC, and I think I still have an USB 1.1 port. This could have influenced the transfer time.

My hubby and I have an older computer also. I believe that load time is affected by slowwer older computers too. (We have officially named our computer "Frakenstein". We say that its an old man with missing outer shell parts. lol) I load songs a little at a time. A lot of times, no more than about 3 albums at a time. Since our computer is a little slower than most, iTunes has been known to freeze for at least a minute before completeing a transfer. It snaps out of it tho. What's really annoying but that I live with (for right now) is me being impatient and clicking more than once to play a song and it restarting several times before actually playing through. lol That's ok...for now. We plan on upgrading real soon. Hopefully somewhere around Christmas. 🙂
