Is there a size limit on Zip files.

Hi,

I'm trying to archive a large amount of files. For example one folder is over 5GB. Is is it safe to zip a 5GB folder? Is there a limit to zip file sizes?

G5, Mac OS X (10.4.1)

No limit. I just compressed a 7.57 GB file. Don't expect much compression if the files are compressed already, such as video, JPEGs, MP#s, etc. My 7.57 GB file compressed all the way to 7.4 GB.

The limit is the same as the *OS file size limit*.
Although, it is safe, it is very slow to zip a 5Gb folder.

Another limiting factor would be about 1/4th your free disk space.
