Itunes won't play songs

I'm having a similar problem. ITunes opens fine, I can see my full library, etc;, but when I press the "play" button after selecting a song, it just won't play. Have uninstalled and reinstalled ITunes and Quicktime to no positive effect. Problem seemed to arise after installing Windows Vista Service Pack 1, but not sure there's a connection.

I also have the problem. Only since the latest iTunes update, 8.0.1

If I select a song and click 'play' nothing happens--it doesn't show in the bar that the tune is playing or selected, nothing.

Same here. Have to reboot for itunes to play anything again.

I also can't play songs from I Tunes since I got this new computer with VISTA. I have hears there are issues with Vista and I Tune. Does anyone know about this and what to do about it?

I have the same problem too. I have the latest itunes installed and am up to date on Windows Updates. Rebootig does not work. I am stumped.

i also have this problem... does your guys window defender and windows update update or does it give you an error message because i think this is connected in some way

I have just encountered this problem to - it's stopped playing after installing the latest update - someone must have encountered this and resolved out there - help!

My itunes has the same problem/stopped working too! this was after SP1 was installed... what is going on?

I too have had this problem, where iTunes will not move from 0:00 when trying to play a song in the library.
I have Windows Vista and the way that worked for me was to go into Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, find Quicktime, and select 'Repair' on the toolbar.

I'm running the latest version of Windows Vista and ITunes 8.0.2.20.
I had the problem where iTunes does not move from 0:00 when trying to play a song in the library. I fixed the problem by following the suggestion posted by Suffolkdave, "go into the Control Panel, select 'Uninstall a Program', find Quicktime, and select 'Repair' on the toolbar."

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, it didn't fix the issue for me. It still sits at 0:00. I really wonder how widespread this problem is...

I am alos having this problem. It first occured when I upgraded to 8.0, advice from Apple for was uninstall itunes and reinstall - this worked. But after itunes automatically downloaded the latest update it no longer plays any music. Have tried reinstalling but no luck. I don't think it is related to SP1. I hope someone finds a solution soon!

I have this same exact problem! The songs are all just stuck at 0:00 with all the information above like it's ready to play, but won't. I also have Windows Vista and I'm not sure if all of you are also having this issue, but sound won't play throughout my computer. Any videos that I play as well as choppy and slow. They used to play perfectly fine and so did my iTunes. I have no idea what happened.

yeah. this started with itunes 8... i tried uninstalling and re-installing itunes 7, but it didn't work. any other ideas? does apple even check these support forums?
