Ok when I tried to upgrade my iphone to the new 2.1 version, it was almost complete, like 3/4ths done and then it stops updating and my iphone screen turns back to the white usb plug and arrow pointing twords the itunes logo.

I just got through trying AGAIN and now it says "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (13)."

I ALSO went to help and ran a diagnostic. It says it can not find my iphone....

I have the up to date itunes, I have tried restoring so many times.....

Any help would be incredible. Thanks!

iPhone 3G, Windows XP, The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (13).

There's millions and billions of potential hardware software combinations on Windows. Different USB chipsets, different mother boards, patch levels, drivers etc.. etc..

Should Apple test every single possible combination and have the iPhone 3G ready in 50 years time?

You might post your hardware configuration and installed software as this offers clues. Many firewalls and anti-virus programs install hooks into various parts of Windows that can cause problems.
