Component AV Cables

I have purchased the component av cables to be used with my i-Phone 3g. When I hook it up, I get either Audio or Video, but not both on the same channel. I have hook them up directly to the HDTV, then to the i-Phone. Can anyone tell me a better way to do it so that I get Audio & Video on the same channel.

just to make sure you have the right cables:

What color are the ends, did you buy them from apple or are they original apple av cables?

The colors are red, green, blue. is it supposed to be hooked up through a DVD player or direct to the Television?

There should be 5 connectors: 3 for video and 2 for audio. They should be connected directly to the television.

when hooked to my component jacks on my tv,everything works fine. Are they apple cables or an aftermarket brand?

The red, green and blue should go directly into the TV, but those are video only. As mentioned above, you would need 2 more wires for sound (red and white).

You can't hook this to a DVD player as there red/green/blue jacks (component) are for Video Out only. The iPhone is doing video out, so you need to connect to Video IN on the TV.
