name already taken trash warning

This isn't a serious problem, just a constant annoyance that earlier Mac OS's didn't have - whenever I trash an item when there is another same-named file in the trash, I get an annoying warning:

The name "filename" is already taken. Please choose another name.

The only option is to click on OK which dismisses the dialog, automatically renames the file and trashes it... and I had to do that because why?

Is there a way to make this go away?

MacPro 2.66Q, Powerbook G4, iPhone 3G, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Finder->Preferences->Advanced->uncheck Show warning before emptying the Trash. That's what i have set and never see what you see. Alternatively, when you delete something, empty the trash.

Thanks, but that config item was already unchecked.

I believe that's to get rid of a a whole 'nother annoying warning and is not the reason I'm getting this one. This is upon adding to trash, not upon emptying.

Understood. All I can suggest is to create a new admin user account, log into, and see if the problem persists. If not, then you'll know it's some kind of conflict or corruption in the original account, usually amongst preference files (plists). If so, then reinstall the 10.5.5 COMBO update, repair permissioins, and restart.
