    Hi,

Same problem here. Warranty is still on, but leaving my computer for week is not an option for me. Maybe I would buy another one and then take this to Apple.

Anyways, I had also a problem since some applications refused to launch without a sound device. I installed Soundflower (is is free, open source) and now I can launch those apps and watch Youtube videos. Without sound, obviously. Hope this helps.

Same problem as everybody else. Problem started on Dec. 23. Yesterday I took my laptop to the Apple Store in Manhattan. The Genius wasn't surprised at all. They are getting tens of computer with the same issue. They need 5 days to order the parts and 3 days to service the computer. The parts to be replaced are:
    Item # Description
    922-8379 Audio board
    922-8380 Audio board flex cable

Please post when you get the laptop back and advise if that definitely fixed the problem.

Here's a baffling situation. After weeks of no audio on the MacBook Air, after a normal restart this morning after being in sleep mode, THE SOUND CAME BACK! I did absolutely nothing different this morning from any other morning. No new software was downloaded. We'll see how long it lasts!

Same issue on my MacBook Air . . . no audio and Flash playback halts after 2-3 seconds.

Into a service center for part replacement I guess . . . but c'mon Apple . . . please post some official instructions.

Wondering if this could somehow be a heat related issue. In an earlier post I indicated that the sound mysteriously came back this morning on a restart after several weeks of no audio. After being on all day, the sound started to fade and disappeared tonight. I noticed that the bottom of the Air was very hot. I'm going to try putting a fan under it tomorrow just to see if it makes a difference.

I have *the same* problem with my IMAC G5
flash videos stop playing, no audio device output, etc, etc.
This is not only with MBA.
And the issue come and go with the time.

I think that this is hardware issue because the temperature is to high and with the time the cable and the audio board stop work.

Sadly, my machine has been into the shop, and back. Replaced a hard drive and a logic board, and the shop guys said it was working. Back home -- nada. No icon, no input, no nothing.

This is just amazing, and not in a good way.

Craziness continues. Our MacBook Air's audio icon came back suddenly about a week ago but by the end of the day it had disappeared again. Since then, the icon will appear but not always with sound. When the icon is showing it will let you play YouTube videos, etc., but not always with sound (when the icon is gone the videos won't play). Based on the other replies I'm reluctant to take it in for repair even though I have an Apple Care policy on it. This has become very frustrating.

I reinstalled Tiger and the problem go away but I believe that the problem is still here and will come back :/

I think that the problem is with the audio board and the audio board flex cable not with hard drive (?) and a logic board...

And I dont have apple care, ohh my gosh.

Well, I brought it in for the sound and they said the drive was failing, so they fixed that first. Replaced the drive. And by the way, on the older Airs, you can't swap out the 80 gigs for a bigger drive.

Then, the logic board. No dice. Haven't told them yet. Right now, I'm still trying to back everything up, again. No fan of Time Machine, either. I'm going to look into Carbon Copy Cloner and hope it works on the terrabyte Time Machine thing. Getting very edgy.

Got my computer back on Jan 12. It took Apple ~10 days to receive the parts and fix the problem.
    Works fine now.

I had one of the first MBA's in the UK.

My audio disappeared about 6 weeks ago. Didn't really bother me to start with, but took it to the Genius bar after about 4 weeks of no sound. They kept it for a week and replaced I/O door assembly, PCBA Audio Board, Audio Flexy Assembly. Mine was still just in warranty so it didn't cost a penny, the bill would have been £96.60 if I had to pay.

The genius wasn't surprised at my problem, neither were other members of staff that I spoke to.

Is the action of the USB door assembly wearing components out ?????
Is the MBA getting too hot and melting components ?????

    Let's have some answers please.
