Upgrading 4core to 8 Core Mac Pro

Hello,

Is it possible to upgrade an older 4 Core 2.66 Xeon to a 8 Core? If so any instructions would be great. Also can I keep the existing ram?

Thanks

Mac Pro/Macbook Pro/Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

I hate to disagree, but it is technically possible. Though it is technically pointless. Its like trying to add an extra turbo on your Bugatti Veyron! Pointless!

It voids any warranty or future support Apple could offer: don't do it! There is horribly nasty thermal grease on the processors that is toxic (not the normal kind) do not try it!!!!

My advice is to wait for Snow Leopard, at which point you'll see the software you use be capable of utilising all the power that is currently unused.
