iMovie Video capture

Hi,
I have a sony Handycam DCR-HC44 and using firewire I am unable to capture any content.
The camera window does not open in iMovie and the camcorder is in play mode.

I have checked a number of other blogs and the Sony and Apple support stuff....Nothing.
Can anybody help??

Appreciate it..

Welcome to iMovie Discussions.

Are you sure that you're using a FireWire (..also called i.Link or DV..) connection - with a 4-pin-to-6-pin connecting cable, which looks like this..

..into a socket on the camcorder which looks like this:

..because it's easy to mistakenly use a USB socket - which won't transfer video, and is just for transferring still pictures which may be saved onto the camera's Memory Stick.

An i.Link/DV/FireWire/IEEE1394 cable (..all the same thing..) will NOT have been in the box with the camera, and it needs to be bought separately.

If you HAVE connected via FireWire, then push the button on the camcorder to start playing, and then see if the movie starts to appear in iMovie.

Note that you'll need to have created a new project in iMovie which matches the camcorder's frame rate ..25fps (PAL) in Europe, 29.97 (NTSC) in the States, and you'll want to create a 4:3 project for normal 'square' video, or a 16:9 project for 'widescreen' video.
