Does Push drain batt power?

Hello,

After reading many posts related to battery issues on iPhone 3G, I have some doubts.

I used to have my MobileMe account pushed to my iPhone, but the battery used to drain in 5 to 6 hours. On "Usage" screen, under "Settings" I noticed that both times in "Usage" and "Standby" fields were the same -- meaning that the iPhone were using 100% of the batt power all the time it was turned on. 5 to 6 hours of usage on 3G is OK, per iPhone specs.

Then, I went to Settings > Fetch new Data and selected "Push" Off and Fetch hourly. With this settings I was able to get battery for 2 days (up today) and still have more than half of batt power.

My question is: why does Push makes the iPhone consuming battery all the time? As far as I understand Push, it should be something that iPhone receives (maybe a special SMS), and then connects to the 3G/wifi network to get data (email/calendar/contacts) ...

Does anyone have a hint?

Thank you,
Ricardo

But this is exactly the issue:

I have a MobileMe account setup on it.

If I set "Push" the battery will drain in 5 to 6 hours -- in 3G
If I set "Fetch Hourly" the batt would last for 2 days.

My doubt is if this happens to everyone or not?
Or if it's a software bug -- since the iPhone keeps connected and using full batt power all the time.

Thanks

Push Email accounts such as MobileMe or Microsoft Exchange tend to drain the battery life faster than regular email accounts. Though it should last the entire day, not just 5 hours unless all you're doing for that 5 hours is sending/receiving email and even then that should be a full 8 hour work day. A recommendation is to only leave on services you need at the time so as to extend battery life. If I'm having a really busy day and don't have my charger with me then I opt to turn off HSPA (3G) which then defaults back to EDGE. This increases my battery life to over a day. Another battery life saver is to ensure to turn off WIFI when not using it otherwise it's looking for a signal to connect to, as well turn off location services when not using it. Since I have a busy schedule I'm planning to get the Mophie iPhone 3G Juice Pack when it's released at the end of this month to help extend the iPhone 3G usage with HSPA and Push Email throughout the day.
