I have to reply here. I just came over after a horrible three weeks on a new BlackBerry Bold. I've been a BB user for several years and, being a Mac user, have LOVED the way my wife's iPhone worked, especially connection and updating from her iBook.

So, when I finally gave up on the BB and got the 3G I expected some things to be the same. One of them being the way the BlackBerry would virtually 'float' between Bluetooth devices, almost seamlessly. It took a while to get it working, but finally got it.

I have a Jabra BT500 earpiece, BlueAnt ST3 speakerphone in my car, and a Motorola Bluetooth device that adds my iPhone to the cordless phone network in my home.

The trick is to PAIR EACH DEVICE as if it were the ONLY DEVICE CONNECTED. DO NOT UNPAIR the first device and move on to device #2. Enter the code, let it PAIR and move on to device #3 doing the same. Once you've done all of your devices, you simply move 'into the zone' of each one and they should connect.

The Jabra, obviously, had to be turned on, but paired immediately. The BlueAnt ST3 turns on when it senses movement in the car, i.e. opening the door, etc. Once it's on, it pairs immediately. When I get home and are out of my car, I place the iPhone near the Motorola device and my cell number is now part of my home cordless system.

If I look at the Bluetooth setup in the general prefs, it shows all three devices as being paired. PAY NO ATTENTION TO THAT MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN!!! IT ALL WORKS!!!

Don't know how it works for you. I have a Jawbone II paired and the Handsfree Link on my Acura. Whenever I take the Jawbone with me I have problems with the Acura link which keeps dropping out, even when my Jawbone is off. When I leave the Jawbone at home Handsfree works fine but then when I'm outside the car I don't have an earpiece!

Today I connected the phone to my new Audi and the same problem occurs. The car connection keeps dropping out. What I realized is that in the bluetooth setting on the phone it constantly keeps trying to connect as it is in discovery mode. My guess is that the phone keeps trying to connect to different devices that are paired.

What I want it to do is connect to the car system in the car and to the Jawbone outside the car. How can I set this up without having to pair and unpair devices all the time? Haven't found the answer yet. My guess is that if I could turn the phone into non-discovery mode it might work but I'm not sure.

I know that, but how do you define "active", even when my Jawbone is off the car link doesn't pick up the phone connection properly. I physically have to leave the Jawbone at home which really can't be the purpose as I want to use it while I'm not driving but don't want to have to re-pair it every time I leave the car and return (after buying my coffee for instance).

Whether you leave your jawbone at home, fed ex it to your office, put it in the trunk or drag it 300' behind your car, IF its off, its off. From my experience, the iPhone is NOT the sharpest tool to automatically grab an available BT connection that it has previously been paired with. Sometimes I have to turn my BT bud on and off and on again to pair with my iPhone. So, IF your jawbone is off, it shouldn't be anywhere in the mix for pairing with your car link.

I would suggest that maybe your problem is that your car link is just not that error free with your iPhone connection.

I also have a Jabra BT2010 headset, but also have a GE Bluetooth gateway to connect my cordless phones when I'm home.

The problem I see, is that while both devices say "paired" on the iphone, when you receive or initiate a call, you see a screen that says "audio souces."
In my case it says iphone, Speaker Phone, and GE-21518 or Bluetooth headset.
If I turn off my GE Gateway, and re-pair the headset, the headset works. But as soon as I turn the GE Gateway back on, it overrides and removes the "Bluetooth headset" as the working Bluetooth device. If I go somewhere in the car, when I get out of the driveway, I still have to re-pair the headset to get it to work again.

The iphone looks like it will pick the strongest signal Bluetooth devioce to show in "audio scource". That sort of makes sense, but it would be nice if you could pick which one to use on your own. But I'm not sure what to make of needing to re-pair the headset when I am away from home to get it to work. Perhaps a better quality headset might produce different results, but I've seen a couple of posts about problems with the Jawbone, and that is supposed to be a pretty high quality device.

I just filed a bug thru the feedback site. I have 2 BT headsets (1 for each car) both plantronics (3xx and 9xx models). I only use one at a time (and only 1 is powered on at a time). But iphone looses the ability to reconnect. I've only been able to reconnect by deleting and rediscovering it. Clearly a problem with the iphone. This ability to have multiple headsets works fine with low cost competitor devices.
