How to size images to 1024x768 pixels in iPhoto7.1.4?

As a member of a local photo club I am required to size my jpeg images to 1024 x 768 pixels and I have not been able to do that in iPhoto? Is there a way? (Does 1024 x 768 pixels equal 3"x5"?)

Sure - select the Photo(s) and go to the file menu ==> export command and export as a JPEG - you can select the size during the export process

(Does 1024 x 768 pixels equal 3"x5"?)

No there is no relation between pixels and inches - IF you were to print a 1024x768 pixel at 300 dpi it would be 2.56"x3.41" - or if you printed it at 100 dpi it would be 10.24"x7.68"

Thanks for that info. I did custom size the image and it did work for one image but the second image customized to 1024 X 768 became 1024 X 685. It required different cropping but how would I know that? iPhoto didn't indicated the custom size was not doable. Any suggestions?

Is there a way for me to know or check that the image really is 1024X768 because one of the images I did size was not correct according to the club member who downloads and projects them. Can I verify that it is correct before I send it?

Sorry to be a nuisance but...I did find the photo dimensions as part of photo information as you suggested in the finder but I wasn't able to size it correctly. When I choose 1024X768 it will only do 1024X685. I just don't understand why it won't accept 1024X768. I'm hoping to avoid working with Photoshop Elements oranother third party editor if I can. Any ideas ?

in iPhoto select the photo, double click it to enlarge it, click edit, click crop, click constrain and open the constrain menu and go down to custom - enter 1024 and 768, grab the edge of the crop window and drag to the size you want and click apply - then drag the resulting photo to the desktop and verify with the finder

I'm just not getting it. I've tried with 2 images and after doing that the verification through the finder was 3456X2592. i'll just have to tell the club members that this doesn't work reliably and forget iPhoto. I'll have to try Nikon NX2 ...too bad

Glad we got through it - one of the reasons it is convoluted is that I didn't catch that 1024 x 768 is a 4:3 ratio which is the standard image ratio for digital snap shot cameras - so I made it harder than necessary

Since cropping is a ratio you can do a custom crop to 1024x768

In the finder in column view select a photo and the photo dimensions display as part of the photo information
