Quicktime Player requires Windows 2000 or later

I am trying to use Quicktime 7.5.5 (990.7) on my new HP m9340f desktop running Vista Home Premium service pack 1 64-bit version.

I keep getting the message:
Quicktime Player requires Windows 2000 or later.
Please make sure compatibility mode is disabled in the Compatibility tab of the properties for QuickTimePlaye.exe

The compatibility is unchecked and this still pops up and the player won't start.

Any suggestions?

QuickTime Player is not supported on Windows 64 bit OS's. That you have found out.
You need to learn more about the "Compatibility" function of your OS and the Vista help files should point out the solution.
Make sure you've installed it under an Administrator account and have the proper permissions to edit or change the way things work on your OS.

None of this workd. It was installed under an Admin account and I have used every variation under the compatibility wizard.

It's not clear from what you say if you have seen this article on your error message:

If you have iTunes on your PC do the same thing from iTunes.exe.
