Exported XML file nothing but computer code

Hello, lately I have been having a problem when I export out of iMovie 8 to Final Cut Pro. At first, this worked fine, but now all my XML file consists of is computer code.

I can export to any other format just fine. I use a Panasonic AVCHD video camera, and am working off of a G5 w/Leopard.

Has anybody else ever come across this problem? Thanks.

XML IS just computer code..

it is a list, which file from where and how should be transfered.
no 'video data', just 'discription' (=code).
a tool as FinalCut/Express can read that list and 'grabs' all related items..
.. like a shopping list.. not the shopping basket..

Well, my main problem is that before when I clicked on the XML file, it would open in FCP, and I could work on it.

Now when I click on the XML file, a text edit box pops up, and all I see is random computer code. Is this what should be happening? I was under the impression I could export out of iMovie 8 to Final Cut Pro, and this is something that I used to be able to do.

Thanks.

forget that 'double clicking' for a moment..
choose 'Import' in FC to open that XML file..

does it work? fine.

step2)
in Finder, single-click the XML file, Apple-I, choose 'open with..' in the drop-down, select FC; apply to all files of that type. done.

Still nothing.

When I try to import into FCP, the file is grayed out, and when I right-click on it and try to open it in FCP, I get an error message that says, "Codec not found", then it says I may not have the right compression/hardware card. With this method, the click gets imported anyways, but when I click on it to open it in the viewer, I get a message that says that I'm out of memory.

I'll continue to work on it. Thanks for the help.

If you've moved the file(s) which is/are the actual video - which the XML code is describing - then FCP (..or anything else..) won't know where to find the video "assets".

If it says that it can't find the correct "codec", then maybe you've downloaded some other codec, or QuickTime plugin, which is interfering and preventing FCP using the correct codec (video handling software).

If you're using hi-def material, then after some upgrades your Mac might 'lose' the Apple Intermediate Codec, which may need to be re-installed.

But why not ask in the FCP Discussions..?
