You might be trying to sync a video file that exceeds the limits of the iPod Touch.

From the specifications page [http://support.apple.com/kb/SP496] the video must be either H.264 or MPEG4 with these encoding rates and picture sizes:

H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.

H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.

MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.

For the iPod with video, 5th generation:

H.264 video up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.

MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.

Now there used to be an option to "create ipod version" (or something like that).

I'm noticing that the newest iTunes has "create appletv version", but these are not not necessarily ipod compatible. Is there still a way to make something ipod compatible through iTunes?

Ah, never mind - read a bit more. Advanced -> create Ipod or Iphone version.

I have a movie and it will not sync to my Touch. The movie is in my ITunes file already but somehow it's not syncing. My other movie syncs just fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

iSquint and Handbrake are two freeware apps that will convert video into the 'correct' MP4 format for iTouch.

What software do you use to open up the file?
