iPhone sluggish

Hi,

Can anyone help - My iPhone first generation seems to be REALLY sluggish! I've only used 45% of the 8GB memory, but it's really slow at opening up applications.

For example, CONTACTS opens quite quickly but takes 5-10 secs before I can start scrolling down the list.

Can I do anything to speed it up?
