AC3 and Final cut

Question

AC3 and Final cut

I'm trying to import video and audio into final cut...but only the video files are being read. A friend told me I needed to install AC3 audio in order to read the audio files. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks

AC# is a file format. You don't install it. Describe your workflow. Where do your files come from and what format are they. ac3 files are not an editing format. Not sure how to convert to aiff but you might try compressor or mpeg streamclip.

This sounds as if you are trying to import mpeg1 or mpeg2 video files which usually contained muxed or combined video and audio.

Sorry, I'm a beginer with this stuff. I'm trying to import the files from a DVD. The video files show up as VTS_TS.VOB. The audio files just don't show up at all, which is what I'm trying to figure out. I tried changing the .VOB to a .MPG but the audio still didn't come through. If I need to install something, what, and where do I find it?

as nick said, use mpegstreamclip and convert the dvd to a fcp friendly format. A DV quicktime works pretty well as it preserves the pixel dimension and does a pretty good job of maintaining the quality.
