How to change the color of the file name Font in Finder window and Desktop

Hi all,

Is there any way to change the color of the font in the file names?. I am not talking about Highlight Color, which can be set up in General Preferences.

For example, if I have a black background for a Finder windows (in icon view), I would like to have the file names in white.

Thanks

Hi cayohuesocaca

I suggest sending feedback to Apple about this at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

MacPilot has the ability to change system fonts to a limited extent: http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php I have never used MacPilot for this and don't intend to so I can't comment too much on it. Looking at the fonts panel it looks like you can change the font and the size. If you entered something like Times New Roman Italic it may invoke the change you are after. I cannot see any option to change the text colour.

Hope this helps

I am not sure it's possible without some 3rd party app.
I just created a file name in an rtf file, colored it and copied it to replace the file name of another file but when I pasted it, the color changed to black. Ditto with the font style. I tried an italic font but when I pasted it, it became the standard font.
The file names are actually BSD file names, and if you look at the files in terminal, there seems to be no obvious place to store any additional attributes to change the color or font.
I admit it's probably possible with some hacking in the terminal, but if it changes the BSD name as well, you are asking for trouble.

You can easily make an Automator workflow to label everything into the folder, and combine that with Folder Actions to automatically apply the label whenever you add anything to the folder.

If you want to make the workflow, you would use Get Specified Finder Items (with the folder specified), then Get Folder Contents, then Label Finder Items. Save the workflow as a plugin for Folder Actions. Right click on the folder and select More > Configure Folder Actions. Add your folder to the list, choose your workflow when it asks you, then make sure Enable Folder Actions is checked. Anything new you add to the folder will be automatically labeled with whatever color you picked when you made the workflow.
