Help! Can't Open Mac Book Pro Lid

I can't open my MacBook Pro. I hesitate to try and pry it open with any kind of device, because I"m worried about breaking something. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be very much appreciated!

This has happened to me before, but somehow, eventually, the lid eventually pops open.

Try opening with the battery removed. Look for any debris in the battery bay that may be putting pressure on the latch area. If the battery is deformed or swollen, contact Apple immediately.

Was this machine build-to-order, or later repaired after purchase, or later had some internal installation?

Thanks. I found a small piece of plastic that seemed to be causing problems with the latch mechanism. Thanks very much!!

Thanks very much for this prompt response to my question. I really appreciate it. No, it wasn't custom build, but the optical drive was repaired a few months ago.
